Located just 20 minutes outside of downtown Nevada City, Dream Big Mini Farm Sanctuary is more than your average animal rescue. Founded by Jessyka Stinson, this sanctuary, is dedicated to rescuing farm animals and creating unforgettable experiences for families and children.

Born and raised in Nevada County, Jessyka’s love for animals drove her to become a registered vet tech and has remained a constant throughout her life. She is a dedicated mother of four who skillfully balances motherhood and working multiple jobs, including owning and managing S&S Tree Service. Yet, it was her unwavering compassion for animals and a persistent friend that led her to create this farm animal safe haven.

It all began four years ago when a friend asked if she could bring some children over to visit her backyard farm, which housed only a few rescued animals at the time. Watching the children’s faces light up as they interacted with the animals, her friend pushed her to turn her passion into something bigger. “After seeing the kid’s smiles and pure happiness, I knew she was right” she recalls when thinking of that day.

Just six months later, Dream Big Mini Farm Sanctuary officially opened. She had transformed her backyard into a fully functioning farm animal sanctuary and a petting zoo. Now, it’s a hands-on, fun destination for families and animal lovers alike. For Jessyka, the most rewarding part is providing forever homes for the animals and sharing the happiness they create with the community.

Among the many types of animals rescues, roosters are the most common. Whether due to noise complaints, local ordinances, or the unexpected challenges of ownership, roosters often find themselves without a home.

Dream Big Mini Farm Sanctuary is the only rooster rescue in California, making it a vital refuge for these often misunderstood creatures. Today, most of the animals living at the sanctuary are roosters. Where they’re always lovingly cared for and given a safe place to live out their days.

The farm is open to the public from May (weather permitting) and stays open until the fall. She welcomes families and groups to come and enjoy the animals she has taken under her wing. All the proceeds from entry tickets help to provide food, shelter, and essential veterinary care for the animals. Dream Big Mini Farm also offers a family discount for those in need.
