Serving Nevada County as a trusted mobile service, Gold Country Wildlife Control is a family-owned and operated business run by Dalton and Sydney Stephenson. Rooted in a deep love for the outdoors, their story is one of ingenuity, community, and dedication to humane wildlife solutions.
Dalton and Sydney both attended Nevada Union High School and later tied the knot at the historic North Star House before starting a family. Their shared love the Yuba River, Lake Tahoe, hiking, and kayaking reflects their lifelong connection to nature. That same connection would eventually help to spark the idea for their business.
It all began in 2014 when a family friend needed help evicting skunks from under their house. Together they successfully removed the skunks and repaired the crawlspace door to prevent future invasions. At the time, Dalton was working a minimum-wage job, and Sydney while thinking out loud said, “Someone has got to pay better for this.” That moment marked the birth of Gold Country Wildlife Control.
Now a licensed contractor business, Gold Country Wildlife Control specializes in repairing and fortifying home structures and vents to block access for rodents and wildlife. This proactive approach not only reduces the need for harmful poisons but also minimizes costly home damage.
This time of year, their most requested service is skunk removal. As skunks break into crawlspaces through open or damaged vents to prepare for breeding, homeowners often need urgent assistance. Bat exclusions are also in high demand, with a strict deadline of May 15 to complete them.
While wildlife control keeps them busy, Sydney and Dalton wish more people knew about their commercial bird control services. They enjoy the challenge and appreciate the opportunity to collaborate in the B2B space.

Dalton’s favorite part of the job is exploring Nevada County’s scenic landscapes. “The mountain drives are always pretty,” he says. Sydney finds joy in observing the animals they encounter. Her favorite? Bats.
When they’re not hard at work, the couple supports their favorite local businesses. Sydney loves Lazy Dog for their delicious ice cream bars, while Dalton is loyal to All Star Automotive, praising the shop for its excellent service on their work trucks.
