Haunted History Meets Desktop Art — Nevada County Edition

There’s something magnetic about Nevada County after dark — that blend of old brick, whispering pines, and lingering echoes of history. To celebrate spooky season, I’ve created three eerie desktop wallpapers that capture that mysterious charm of our local landmarks, each transformed into something straight out of a ghost story.

These wallpapers are FREE to download! Just click the link below the image.

The Holbrooke Hotel — “Ghosts of the Balcony”

This wallpaper turns Grass Valley’s iconic Holbrooke into a spooky masterpiece. The bats against the large orange moon and the cobwebs draped over the street lights give it the perfect mix of elegance and unease — a nod to the hotel’s long and storied past.

The North San Juan Tavern — “Shadows on the Ridge”

The old tavern in North San Juan takes on new life here — or perhaps something less alive. Wrapped in fog beneath a full moon, the tavern stands stoic while shadowy figures gather on the road. You can almost feel the chill of the Yuba night air when you look at it.

The National Hotel — “Ghosts of the Balcony”

This wallpaper turns Nevada City’s iconic National Hotel into something quite paranormal. The gaslights flicker against shadowed windows, and faint ghostly figures appear to linger where laughter once filled the halls. As one of the most haunted places in the area the scene is almost too fitting.
