Labor Day weekend is supposed to be about BBQs, last-minute camping trips, and soaking up those golden Sierra foothill sunsets. But if you look at the Nevada County Sheriff’s jail media report from this holiday weekend, the picture isn’t quite so sunny. Once again, alcohol-related arrests and DUIs were way too common, reminding us all that celebrations can turn serious in a heartbeat when mixed with impaired driving.

Nevada County Sheriff’s Labor Day Arrest Numbers

That’s 23 alcohol-related arrests and 15 DUI arrests over just 4 days in our small county.
Nevada County’s numbers are a slice of a much bigger issue. Last year, CHP reported over 1,140 DUI arrests during Labor Day weekend statewide, with 21 deaths tied to impaired driving crashes. On average, California sees more than 125,000 DUI arrests annually.
Puts things into perspective when you can see just how quickly a “fun night out” can turn into life-changing consequences.
