Freedom Isn’t Free: Honoring Our Fallen Heroes This Memorial Day

Today isn’t just about backyard barbecues, boat rides, or an excuse to snag a good sale. Memorial Day is a solemn reminder—one that humbles us, grounds us, and hopefully, pauses us long enough to say “thank you.”

It’s about honoring the brave souls who gave their lives for this country. The men and women who left behind families, dreams, and futures so that the rest of us could live in freedom.

That freedom we often take for granted? It was bought and paid for with real sacrifice. So today, we honor those who paid the highest price.

As someone raising three kids in a country they get to grow up safely in and with a little sister currently serving in the Air Force, I don’t take it lightly. I can’t begin to imagine the strength it takes to serve, or the courage it takes to lose someone who has. But I can say this—I am endlessly grateful. Grateful for the heroes, known and unknown, who now rest under flags and folded honors.

So while you’re flipping burgers or dipping your toes in a river today, take a moment to remember why we have this day at all and honor their memory.

From my family to yours—
may we never forget what this day truly means.
