Every profession comes with its surprises and unusual situations, but few match the total unpredictability of law enforcement. Here’s a look at some of the more curious calls placed in Nevada County recently.

The Great Copper Caper

A resident reported that a tenant helped themselves to some copper from the property.
Let’s hope the “coppers” can recover the copper!

Trash Day Troubles

A caller requested a civil standby so they could legally place their garbage in a trash can — a task complicated by an active restraining order against the homeowner. Sometimes even simple chores can get tangled in legal knots.
This certainly makes you reconsider the phrase, “take out the trash.”

Yogi, Is That You?

The caller reported a bear stuck inside a friend’s vehicle, and to add to the wild tale, mentioned an additional bear loitering outside.
Seems as though Yogi and BooBoo have outgrown Jellystone and now call Nevada County home.

Rock-Throwing Rendezvous

A young male was seen tossing rocks at a window, prompting concern. Turns out, he was just trying to get a friend’s attention and accidentally chose the wrong window. No aggression involved, just poor aim and even poorer timing.
Maybe next time, a call or a text would be better than going for a sitcom style attention-getter.

Downtown Squirrel Adventures

A report came in about a determined squirrel attempting to enter a business on Mill Street.
There’s been no word yet on whether it was seeking employment, shelter, or just a new place to stash acorns.
