Erica’s journey to salon ownership is one of passion and purpose. Growing up across Northern California, primarily in Berkeley and Albany, Erica developed a deep appreciation for creativity and connection. After marrying her husband Clint in 2009, their life as a military family took them across the country for 12 years. During this time, Erica earned her cosmetology license from The Aveda Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, and worked as a stylist in the area.
In 2021, following Clint’s retirement from the Army, the Shifflett family made their long-awaited move to Nevada County. Grass Valley and Nevada City had always held a special place in Erica’s heart, as her father brought her there during her childhood to make cherished memories. Now, she shares similar experiences with her two sons.
The opportunity to own Simply Hair came naturally after Erica began working at the front desk and eventually transitioned into a stylist role. When the previous owners considered selling, Erica saw the potential to bring her vision to life while supporting the talented team of stylists. On January 1, 2025, she proudly celebrated her one-year anniversary as the salon’s owner.
Erica’s favorite part of owning the salon is building relationships with clients. “Seeing the joy on someone’s face after a great haircut or color transformation is incredibly rewarding,” she says. “Our clients become like family, and being part of their lives—whether for a routine trim or a special occasion—makes this business so fulfilling.”

The Shifflett family loves supporting local businesses, especially Foggy Mountain Music. “Our kids love taking guitar and drum lessons there,” Erica shares. “The staff is knowledgeable and passionate, and it’s a place where musicians of all ages can grow and be inspired.”
