North San Juan Community Center: Volunteers Needed in Every Corner

Nevada County has a way of thriving when neighbors step up for neighbors. At the heart of North San Juan sits the North San Juan Community Center (NSJCC)—a place where connections are built, meals are shared, and resources flow to those who need them most. From community dinners and the Free Store to community events, the Center is a cornerstone of support and belonging.

But here’s the truth: none of this happens on its own. The NSJCC runs almost entirely on volunteers—local folks who give their time and energy to make sure their neighbors have access to what they need. Right now, the Center is actively looking for more volunteers to join the team, and there are opportunities in almost every capacity.

Why Volunteer?

As the community hub, the NSJCC needs help with a little bit of everything. The Free Store needs people to sort, organize, and keep accurate records of donations. Community dinners need cooks, servers, and clean-up crews. Events require setup, coordination, and clean-up. Even simple administrative tasks—like answering questions or helping make copies—require someone’s time and attention.

Every task might look small on its own, but together, they create the foundation that keeps the Center alive. The NSJCC isn’t just a building—it’s a hub for resilience. Every role, no matter how small, adds up to meals served, clothing shared, and opportunities created. By volunteering, you’re not just donating time—you’re strengthening the very fabric of our community.

The hours are flexible, and the impact is huge. Even a few hours a month can make a difference.

Volunteers are needed to:

Assist in the Free Store

Support community dinners, from prep to clean-up.

Help keep the grounds and facilities welcoming and safe.

Step in on special events—everything from setup to coordination.

Pitch in on administrative tasks like fundraising, outreach, and engagement

Volunteering at the NSJCC isn’t just about ticking boxes on a to-do list. It’s about building a stronger, kinder, and more resilient community. Many of the people served through the Free Store and dinner programs are neighbors facing challenges like homelessness or financial insecurity. Volunteers are asked to approach these roles with warmth, respect, and privacy in mind—because dignity matters most during times of hardship.

Community thrives when we all pitch in. The NSJCC has kept its doors open for decades because people like you showed up, helped out, and cared. Step into this season of change with a commitment to your community—it’s time well spent.
